Cross country season ended with the District meet on Oct. 19 at Seymour. This season came with some changes: a new coach and more dates written on the running calendar.

Coach Amy Huseman is now in charge of a team that is “always improving, making time gaps smaller and working hard.”

Their main goal for this year was to have two varsity teams, one girls and boys, but there was not enough people for the varsity boys team.

I’m satisfied with the number of runners that we have, but I would like to see more people running that are not involved in any sport.

“I’m satisfied with the number of runners that we have, but I would like to see more people running that are not involved in any sport,” Coach Huseman said.

This season’s work was shown in the District meet. Seniors Matthew Newton and Olivia Kellar advanced to regionals.

Newton won eight medals this season, placing in the top 10 in every meet, including first in the district championship.

Kellar, who placed ninth in Throckmorton and eighth in Burkburnett, also advanced to regionals.

“I’ve improved my personal time from 17 minutes to only 14, and the overall experience has been better than I expected.“

In order to advance to the regional meet they had to place in the top 10 as individual or in the top three as a team. The varsity girls didn’t advanced as a team, just as an individual. Although the boys had enough members to be considered a team, two of them hadn’t lived in the district for two years or longer, making it impossible to qualify.
