The Unknown World Around You

“Ms. Peregrine’s Home for Gifted Children” directed by Tim Burton.

The previews of the movie looked like a cross between “X-Men” and “Harry Potter.” The supernatural community was definitely ready for this film.

The movie starts out with a teenager named Jake that loses his grandpa. Jake tries to find closure by going to his grandpa’s old home that has different kinds of special kids. Instead of closure Jake finds a wonderful place full of unordinary children.

As often as it happens, there are always people that want to destroy good things. Jake must help defend the kids against the monsters that would try to destroy them.

Asa Butterfield played a good Jake, his character. There were rough parts where his character was just boring. He just went around and asked questions for over half of the movie. He shoots a couple of arrows at a few enemies in the last 10 minutes, but that is the only time his character gets any action.

He is very interested in this world that he was always told was a fairy tale. He finds out it is surprisingly real. After he enjoys the new world, Jake has to return to his boring dad for no good reason. Imagine if Luke Skywalker was learning the way of the Force and then he just goes home. The producers should have given a reason for him going back, but they didn’t.

The movie has a very fantastic style and the visual effects were clean and cut nicely. Unfortunately, there was some movie scenes that had viewable strings from props that were being held. The shadow of the invisible boy could be seen in some of the scenes.

Sometimes movies don’t fit with the novel and this one just didn’t. This movie could have been better.”Ms. Peregrine’s just didn’t reach its full potential.
