Ladycats take area champ title
The Ladycat softball team has claimed the Area champs title after their victory against Rio Vista on May 7 as wll as undefeated district champs on April 22.
Head coach Mallory Mooney said she is proud to be undefeated.
“It’s a great feeling being undefeated district champs,” Mooney said. “That was one one of our goals at the beginning of the season.”
Senior and first baseman Sara Kyle said she is proud of this season’s outcome.
“I feel confident about being district and bi-district champs,” Kyle said. “We were predicted to win that last district game, but we also worked very hard for it. The team never doubted any of our competition and the win was something all of us wanted.”
Mooney said her one of her favorite memories was one of the team’s victories.
“My favorite memory from this season was beating Windthorst in run-rule fashion to secure the district championship,” Mooney said.
Kyle said one of her favorite memories is one of her personal accomplishments.
“My favorite memory from this season is hitting my first home run,” Kyle said. “I jumped clear over first base out of excitement.”
Kyle said she has anticipated her senior season since the beginning of her high school career.
“This season is something that I’ve been thinking about since freshman year,” Kyle said. “I knew since then that this year was going to be the year for us.”
Mooney said the teams has improved since the beginning of the season.
“It’s been a really fun season so far,” Mooney said. “The girls have really grown and gotten better since the beginning of the season. Right now we are playing really good softball in every aspect of the game.”
Kyle said she believes the team’s biggest accomplishment this season has been teamwork.
“I know everybody is going to say our biggest accomplishment is winning district champs or our playoff wins,” Kyle said. “But in my opinion, our biggest accomplishment is coming together as a team and winning together.”
