FFA students are preparing to compete in the Archer County Junior Livestock Show from Jan. 5-6 at the Archer County Show Barn.
Agriculture teacher Tanner Hash said that students are doing various things to prepare for the County show.
“The students are working with the animals daily,” Hash said. “We’re making sure that the animals are growing strong and healthy so that they are ready for the show.”
Freshman Isabelle Parkey said she does various of things to make sure her animals are presentable.
“I’m washing my steers and heifers every day,” Parkey said. “I also take them to jackpots where I can have some practice with them.”

Freshman Talynn Lowe said that she does plenty with her pigs to get them ready for the show.
“I walk my pigs daily and clean their pens often,” Lowe said. “I’m getting their hair and skin ready for the show by bathing them as often as I can.”
Hash said that with the profits from the meat sales he has plenty of things planned.
“We’re going to use the money to pay dues for contests,” Hash said. “We’re also using the money to pay for better materials around the classroom for students’ benefits.”
Hash said that some of the freshmen placed at the Texoma Fall Classic.
“Isabelle Parkey placed fourth in Greenhand Creed Reading and fifth in Job Interview,” Hash said. “The Greenhand quiz team – Isabelle Parkey, Adrena Denton, Sam Gilmore, Talynn Lowe –placed ninth.”
Hash said that his veterans also placed when they went.
“Eli Anderson placed 15th in Senior Creed Reading,” Hash said. “The Senior Creed Team–Victoria Foster, Zoey Bates, Faith Morris, Eli Anderson–placed 99th.”
Hash said that they took a recent trip to Tarleton where students participated in various activities.
“Isabelle Parkey placed first in Greenhand Creed Reading,” Hash said. “Victoria Foster placed 135 individually in Greenhand quizzes.”
Hash said both Greenhand Quiz teams placed at Tarleton.
