The band scored a two at the Oct. 14 regional competition with the marching show “Shine” by Luke McMillan.
Head Director Anthony Flores said this was the best time the band has performed the show “Shine.”
“I’m not upset about the scores we got,” Flores said. “The band really did try their best.”
The show is 5:38 minutes long with three movements, “Daybreak” “Here Comes the Sun” and “Shine.”
During the competition, senior head drum major Brittany Howard performed a trumpet solo in the second movement, “Here Comes the Sun.”
“It was nerve – wreaking to perform,” Howard said, “but I made sure to give it my all for the band.”
For the first time, the PGWB allowed eighth graders to march on the field. They joined the high school band during first period to help keep up numbers.
“I like getting out of Athletics to come to band,” eighth grader Lanalynn Coffman said. “I also like having band for two class periods.”
On Oct. 2 the band performed at the marching festival. The band performed at 6:45 p.m. The festivals purpose is to get bands ready for contest by giving critiques and suggestions to help the bands improve by scoring like the judges at contest would.
“Festival is the best the band has played since I got here two years ago,” Assistant Director Andrew Brinkman said, “but we still have a lot of work to do.”
The most noted flaw by the judges was the band’s tempo.
“We had some struggles with our tempo during the third movement,” sophomore Seth Kinzie said. “so we are trying to improve.”
