From crashing a minivan into a doublewide to velvet cake competitions, “The Red Velvet Cake War” wraps comedy and Texas stereotyping in one.
The junior high one-act play is preparing this show for the district contest on Nov. 15.
This play is about “some mentally unstable country bumpkins,” eighth grader Lexi Wall said.
Eighth-grader Whit Parkey said that his character is an “over-confident police officer.”
“The play is set in a stereotypical Texas town, holding a girls’ baking competition,” Parkey said.
Wall said she expects for the play to do well.
“
,” Wall said.
Whit Parkey agrees with Wall’s opinion.
“We’ll do good, if not win,” said Parkey.
The students said Mrs. Becky Nogle’s directing style has had an effect on the team.
“Mrs. Nogle’s directing skills are kind of crazy sometimes, but there is a method to the madness,” seventh-grader Ava Blair said.
Seventh grader Cason Aultman said he feels the same about Nogle.
“She can be harsh and sets people straight, but she’s really good,” Aultman said.
The team has the experience and feels like they will succeed.
“The cast’s biggest strength is experience,” Director Becky Nogle said. “Most are eighth graders and many played pivotal roles in last year’s show.”
Some of the conditions this year benefit both cast and crew.
“We feel that we cast this show very well as many parts are very fitting to their respective actor or actress,” Nogle said.
