After four years, the rock band Green Day has released a new album titled “Saviors.” The trio composed by lead vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong, drummer Tre Cool and bassist Mike Drint produced what could be their biggest album yet.
The band members who are all 51 years old and parents said parenthood is what led them to the creation of their new album.
“Saviors,” released on Jan. 19, marks their 14th album. Green Day is a band that was formed in 1987, but some might know their biggest hits like “Good Riddance (Time of your Life)” and their big album “Dookie” that sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
Their recent album features 15 songs. Six out of the 15 songs are explicit. Songs such as “The American Dream is Killing Me” and “Look Ma, No Brains” were pre-released.
Some of their songs already have music videos with “Bobby Sow’’ being one of them. “Do you wanna be my girlfriend?” is the aw-shucked question that is repeatedly asked throughout the song along with the other verse “Do you want to be my boyfriend?” Now for those into rock, this would be the great song to ask their significant other to be their girlfriend or boyfriend that gets the point across.
Scrolling through Instagram to see their old love is something that some might do, and if so then “Suzie Chapstik” might be just the song for them. It talks about missing one’s old love and remembering those great times they had together. The romantic ballad is not really a hard-rock song; it is more of an early-pop mix.
My personal favorite song was the 15th and final track, “Fancy Sauce.” It reminds us that death is inevitable and that is why we have to live life to the fullest and never be scared to try new things no matter if it is today or tomorrow. One thing that I did not like was that four minutes was not enough for this song. With the message conveyed, the song could have been longer to fully get the listener to understand the ups and downs of life.
The band has already announced tour dates for this year. Their tour will first start in Europe and make their way across to North America in the summer. The North American tour will be produced by Live Nation. The tour will also celebrate their 30th anniversary of the album “Dookie” and 20th of “American Idiot.”
Going to their tour for me personally would be a great way to experience rock at its best.
I am not much of a rock fan; I am more of an indie and R&B person. However, “Saviors” is an album that is definitely worth listening to. With its 1950s rock ’n’ roll tropes and mix of pop, this modern album by Green Day will leave listeners to experience modern and yet old rock at its fullest.
