As a new softball season begins, there are many benefits with the new players that have stepped in to play.
With the new players this year, different positions are open for different people depending on the effort put in.
“I feel like we’ve grown as a group and the younger players have stepped up and they are taking roles that are very important,” said Coach Kent Kyle
Freshman Addi Canada said she was nervous to pitch as a freshman.
“Being the pitcher as a freshman is pretty difficult because of all the pressure and expectations, but I have gotten better at handling it,” Canada said.
With every pitcher, there needs to be a catcher. Sophomore Addy Peters said that she has been doing decent in games lately.
“As a catcher, I’ve been doing adequate, but I have to get back into the routine of things because the team is completely different now,” Peters said.
With three injured players, the team is 2-0 in district games.
Kyle said that younger players have had to acquire roles and more playing time, while the team still misses those that are hurt.
Kyle said as a team, there is many expectations that need to be met and there is also room for improvement.
Coach Kyle says that the team could go many rounds in the playoffs.
“I expect us to be in the mix for a district title and go multiple rounds deep,” Kyle said. “With a little luck, we could surprise some teams and go deeper than anyone thought possible.”
