During the summer, many students apply for jobs in the area to earn extra cash. However, getting a job in the summer can be exhausting and even a waste of the summer break.
Not having a job in the summer allows students to enjoy their break from all the school work and activities. Instead of running around all day for school, students can stay home and sleep in or go out with friends. Students aren’t forced to sit in the same building for eight hours during the summer. Getting a job is like going to school, only getting paid to do it.
Summer jobs take over the whole summer. Working every week of the summer may get students money, but there will be little to no time to spend with friends. Students may start to feel disconnected or left out from their friend groups. Spending time with friends or loved ones can also uplift a person’s attitude and boost their energy.
Having a summer job take a lot of time and commitment. Some students are not ready to commit to a job at an early age. Many responsibilities come with getting a summer job. Students have to commit and give up their free time. Students also must have a reliable source of transportation.
It may also be difficult to manage time in the summer with a job. Students that are in sports and have summer league will have to manage their work schedule around their sporting events. Some businesses won’t help students schedule around events for sports. Even planning a vacation will be difficult because the employee will have to take time off to go on a family or friend getaway in the summer.
In all, students having a summer job could be difficult and stressful. Students might also lose track of their schedule by adding in work days mixed with sports or any other summer activity.
