The movie “Unfrosted” is loosely based on cereal brand companies competing against each other to make a brand new food item to wake kids and their parents up and satisfy their bellies before they start their day off. The companies head people are moving and thinking fast, so that they can be the first to create a “morning treat,” and be on top and ahead of the breakfast industry.
It starts off in the sixties because the average, everyday family in America was more traditional and sat around the table as a family, so for breakfast they would start their mornings off with cereal and cartoons.
Although there are five cereal companies, the movie is mainly focused on Kellogg’s and Post. These two companies are the best out of the five in a race to be on top for the new generation.
I enjoyed watching this because it is a very climactic roller coaster that has twists and turns everywhere. Most movies are very straight forward, blunt, and predictable, but “Unfrosted” was not what I expected at all, I went into the movie thinking it was going be silly and dumb. Based on what I read from the description “In this satirical comedy, two cereal companies compete to invent a new breakfast product,” I thought it was going to be a business movie that was boring and straight forward with a bunch of machines, but instead it was very eventful and shows how they worked for their companies to be the best.
Kellogg’s and Post did everything in their power to know each other’s next move before it happened. Kellogg’s had been researching and testing an item, but could not get it right so they threw the idea out; Post stole the idea without letting them know and patent it so it would be theirs instead. The companies were doing dirty work without knowing it.
I think the funniest part of the whole movie was that the company owners liked each other, but because of the “forbidden rule” they both understood that they could not admit to anyone nor themselves that they had feelings for each other because it is forbidden for Post and Kellogg’s employees to be friends because they are rivals.
Despite the fact that the movie is made up to be funny; some of it was based on facts from the creation of a Pop-Tart. This really did take place in the sixties, and was located in Battle Creek, Michigan, where Kellogg’s and Post were located and they did actually compete to come up with this product, but the rest of it is all just for the fun of it. The idea of the Pop-Tart came after Post invented a way to dehydrate food and package it in foil to sell to everyone.
In the movie the name for Pop-Tart came from two kids who took the first letter of every word from “Toaster Ready Anytime Treat; Put On Plate Hot Or Cold,” and they wanted to call it a TRAT-POT, but the commercial guy pronounced it backwards.
Overall I enjoyed the movie very much. It’s available to stream on Netflix.
