After a one year absence, juniors returned to AP English III.
AP English teacher Carol Campbell said the class will prepare students for where they plan on going in the future.
Hopefully this course sharpens their writing skills, Campbell said. “which are so necessary regardless of one’s chosen location.”
Junior Tillie Bardwell said that she toured colleges to prepare for AP English.
I went to go tour Stephen F Austin and A&M over the summer,” Bardwell said. “It was amazing to see how college students do their work and succeed in such hard academics.”
Junior Seth Kenzie said he hopes his studying over the summer can help him in class.
“I read a lot of books over the summer,” he said. “I hope all the reading can help me when we’re reading different publications during class.”
Junior Chloe Hibbs said she feels as if she will be behind the veteran honor students.
“I think I will struggle with writing essays because last year I wasn’t up to par with the former honor students and I feel unprepared,” Hibbs said. “I plan to listen during class discussions and ask my friends for help when I need it.”
Junior Sam Gilmore said he will have to work on his timing skills to prosper in class.
“I feel that the hardest part of AP English will be balancing my work with other classes,” he said. “I’ll try to do as much balancing in time management and hopefully that can help me succeed.”
Guidance Counselor Leslie Graham said AP is making its return because of the students.
“This year we had enough students that were interested in taking the course,” Graham said. “If we don’t have a sufficient amount of kids that sign up for AP, then we don’t offer the class.”
Kenzie said writing in class can help him with his future career.
“Hopefully all the writing in class can help me with persuading CEOs and companies in the future,” he said. “I think I’m good at persuading already, but I want to perfect it.”
Bardwell said that the complex class can help her reach better scores on her future tests.
“I hope that the difficult class work can help me with the SAT and ACT,” she said. “I’ll have to prepare with the packets we get and the writing assignments.”
Campbell said students are expected to excell in her class.
“I’ve always held high expectations for students,” Campbell said. “You must ask of yourself before you expect quality work from others.”
