“The Do-Over” by Lynn Painter captures audiences with sincere romance, witty banter, and understandable characters. This novel tells the story of Emilie Hornby and her life as she relives the same day over and over again as she tries to get her life back to normal.
The book was a light-hearted enjoyable quick-to-read romance. The characters were well-developed and left the reader attached to them. I finished the book in three days wishing I had more of the story to read
The novel follows high school student Emilie Hornby who, on Valentine’s day, discovered that she kept reliving the same Valentine’s day repeatedly, watching her boyfriend cheat on her day after day. She eventually finds Nick Stark who she soon falls in love with. Eventually, the time loop ends, and Emilie is left falling in love with Nick and continues with her life
So far all of the authors work has exceeded my expectations with her books “Better than the Movies” and “Betting on You” I can say without a doubt that Lynn painter is my favorites author to read. “The Do-Over” is easily my favorites book in the collection.
Every chapter begins with a confession from Emilie’s confession box. Through this the readers learn a lot about her and get to know what kind of person she is. This also helped the reader to be more attached to her as a character.
The reader doesn’t get to see much of Nick’s perspective throughout the novel, which leaves the reader wanting to know more about the character.
The novel demonstrates how hard it is to please everyone and that sometimes people need second chances in life.
I think the overall message of the novel was well portrayed and understood generally. This was an easy five -star read for me, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to spend a few hours with Emilie and Nick’s fun romance.
