The Wildcats overall win-loss is 7-18. The team’s district is 4-7 falling to Nocona, Windthorst, Electra, Petrolia and Seymour, winning against Petrolia, Olney twice and Electra placing them fourth in district.
Head Coach Lukas Bontrager said the boys need to win at least three more games to keep their fourth place spot in district.
“Beating Petrolia, Olney and Electra will keep us at the spot we need to be in,” Coach Bontrager said.
Senior Landon Smith said it is possible to beat Windthorst and Nocona.
“I think it is possible to win these two games to insure a set spot in district,” Smith said.
Players agree on the weaknesses of the team.
“I feel like we could all agree that our team needs more shot takers,” senior Haegen Deerinwater said.
Smith said “playing as a team” is what the team needs to not give up.
“When we play a team that we know we’re going to have to work hard to beat, a lot of us get carried away by the lead they have on us and fall apart,” Deerinwater said.
Smith said the team has good “chemistry” together.
“A lot of us have played together for a long time. I wouldn’t rather be with any other team for my last year,” Smith said.
Senior Noah Cornell said the team is good about starting the game.
“We all come out strong at the beginning of the game which helps a lot with enthusiasm,” Cornell said.
A big strength the team has is playing good defense, Deerinwater said.
“We play really good defense which helps us a lot on offense,” Deerinwater said.
“I know what the boys are capable of. If they wanted to go as far as they could it is all up to them and how they want to preform,” Bontrager said.
