The high school one-act play group concluded their season at the district contest March 27. Senior Brooke Smith received all-star cast honors, and junior Chloe Hibbs was named to the honorable mention all-star cast.
“I felt like our performance at district was the strongest we had all season,” director Leslie Graham said. “I was extremely proud of everyone for stepping it up a notch in their performance at contest.”
Smith said she was “really proud” to make all-star cast because she had been working hard for it this year.
“I think a highlight of this year’s performance was the chemistry among all the characters,” Smith said. “We all got along in the play pretty well.”
The group was the third company to perform their play, “The Audition is Over.”
“I’m proud of myself for making the honorable mention all-star cast, considering that it was my first year acting,” Hibbs said. “I thought it was cool that my character was able to give some comedic relief between more serious scenes.”
Freshman Elyse Reeve said her favorite part of the season was being stage manager and helping everyone perform.
“The group did very well at district,” Reeve said. “The cast did a good job remembering what to say, and the technical crew did amazing.”
Freshman Gracelyn Canada said the cast helped each other get ready and gave everyone tips on what they could do better for contest day.
“We did not skip a beat in our district performance, and everyone really put 100% of their effort into making our characters over the top,” Canada said. “Our crew was very hard-working and there at every practice to help us with what we needed.”
Graham said she saw some upperclassmen step up their leadership and take initiative to run lines and practice.
“Mrs. [Becky] Nogle and I are already on the hunt for the next show,” Graham said. “We are hoping to find a comedy or something that we can have a lot of fun with. We both need to laugh. Ultimately, we are looking for the best script to fit the mix of kids we expect to have on stage next year.”
