Friendships in high school can be a complete mess. One day we’re laughing over the dumbest stuff; the next we’re avoiding each other in the halls. No friendship is perfect, and sometimes things get complicated, but at the end there’s always a solution to everything.
Fights in any type of relationship are normal. Arguments are one of the biggest causes of friendship downfalls, and the only way to overcome issues like that is to talk it out each other. Whether it’s over a small misunderstanding or something bigger, it’s better to talk about it than let it get worse. People in our day and age tend to post passive-aggressive videos on social media to try and gain attention from the social media presence and the one for whom the video was originally made. Ignoring the problem or being rude on social media won’t fix anything.
Also, friends change. The people we were close with freshman year might not be the same people we hang out with senior year. Some friendships naturally fade, and we don’t have to force them to last forever. But at the same time, don’t drop people over one little mistake. If they actually care and want to fix things, give them a chance.
One of the biggest solutions to conflicts in friendships is knowing how to say sorry. Everyone messes up and makes mistakes because not everyone is perfect, and being the first to apologize is one step forward to becoming the bigger person.
All relationships should go both ways. If only one out of the two always puts in the efforts to make plans, listens to the others problems or always pitches in money, but the other never does the same in return, it’s not fair. We shouldn’t have to be the one begging someone to care for us; real friends always make time for each other. This is also a reminder to not be the one friend where the other always reaches out to us and we don’t do the same for them.
At the end of the day, friendships take effort, but the good ones are worth it. Just make sure we’re being the kind of friend we’d want to have.
