FFA members are preparing for area for the Career Development Events and for the FFA banquet on May 5 at the activity center.
The wildlife team’s seniors Victoria Foster, Kade Nogle, Aedyn Weiss, Thomas Vogtsberger and sophomore Ian Graves participated on the Eastland CDE meet for region on April 8. Results were unavailable at press time.
Foster has competed in wildlife since her freshman year.
“I am confident that Kade, Aedyn and I will make it to area since we have had experience with it from our previous years,” she said. “I don’t know who for sure will be the fourth member that gets to go, but both Thomas and Ian will also be helpful.”
Foster said the other two members will benefit the team no matter who goes.
“Thomas is really smart so he would be of really great help while Ian can also be of great help with his natural knowledge,” she said.
FFA sponsor Ryan Crafton said he loves seeing the time and effort his students are putting into preparing for area CDE’s.
“Whenever I see my participating students, I always see them studying over their slide shows or quizzes.”
Crafton said he hopes that all their efforts pay off.
“This year I really see my wildlife team making it far,” he said. “The members in the team have all had more experience within the area. Most of those members have been in that team since their freshman year. Area for them looks bright.”
Graves said he hopes to help the team with the best of his ability.
“This will be my first year to be in the wildlife team,” Graves said. “Although I am not an expert yet, I plan to learn from my upperclassman team members.”
Senior Zoey Hastings said this year unfortunately due to bad timing the livestock team was unable to participate at all.
“Many of the member in the team were out for various extra-articular events,” Hastings said.
The livestock team members were seniors Hastings, Johnathan Clay, junior Sam Gilmore and eighth grader Waylan Cowley.
“We had two CDE meeting schedules last month but we couldn’t attend due to members being really busy,” she said. “We only had time for one or two practices together as a team.”
Hastings said she looks forward to the banquet.
“This will be my last banquet,” she said. “I hope to make the best out of it and enjoy it one last time with the rest of the FFA family, one that I will for sure miss.”
