Students have had jobs all through out summer and some are going to continue it through the school year.
Senior Steven Zea Monroy’s summer job was being a mechanic.
“We would repair broken car parts and weld stuff together all day,” he said. “If we couldn’t fix the parts, we’d just order new ones and replace it.”
Junior Jocelyn Tedrow worked at Sonic over the summer.
“I did a bunch of different stuff while working,” Tedrow said. “I was car hopping, making drinks, taking orders, bagging the food, restocking and doing different chores.”
Senior Cason Booher said he spent his summer working with his grandfather.
“Over the summer I was an electrician for my grandpa’s company,” Booher said. “I would usually work five days a week for at least eight hours.”
Working two jobs Junior Kaylen Wolf said she was busy during the summer.
“I worked at 7Brew and Kohls, but I mostly worked at Kohls,” she said. “The training for 7Brew was pretty difficult so I just decided to move over to Kohls and it ended up working out.”
Senior Aliyah Gilbert said she found a job to be independent.
“I honestly wanted to work over the summer because I didn’t want to depend on my parents for money all the time,” she said. “It feels great being able to buy what I want when I want.”
She wanted a job to be out of the house said junior Addison Canada.
“I know if I didn’t get a job, I would just be home doing nothing all day,” Canada said. “It was also nice because I got to get a tan while working at the pool.”
His spending habits were the reason junior Cy Wooldridge said he needed a job.
“I needed a job because I needed stuff like food and gas,” he said. “I also spent a lot of my money on Clash Royale because I had to get the Pass Royale.”
Booher said he wanted to work as an electrician over the summer to learn how to do his work correctly.
“I’ve been working this electrician job for two years already,” he said. “I really wanted to work with my grandpa over the summer so I can make a career out of it in the future.”
Senior Jesse Cantu said he got a summer job to pay for his necessities.
“Working with my grandpa over the summer helped me pay for my new truck,” he said. “Now that I have my truck, I still need this job to take care of things such as gas and maintenance.”
Having a summer job with her parents taught her good work ethics said junior Jetyre Miranda.
“My summer job will help me in the future because it showed me what hard work and not a lot of money is,” Miranda said. “I also got to spend bonding time with my family and making closer connections with them.”
Junior Kaleb Good said his summer job at RibCrib will help him succeed in the future.
“It’ll help me financially if I end up saving any of my money,” he said. “It’ll also prepare me with what I have to deal with after high school such as working with other people and having a busy work environment.”
Sophomore Millie Mayo said her summer job will make a smooth transition into her future career.
“My baby sitting job gave me experience in working with children,” she said. “It’ll definitely help me because I want to be in the pediatric field.”
Junior Trent Howeth said he spent his free days doing different hobbies.
“On my off days I made a lot of pottery and cut tree limbs,” Howeth said. “My goats enjoyed eating all the tree limbs and the pottery helped me relax.”
She enjoyed her time off with activities said senior Kuttar Edwards.
“On my off days I slept and hung out with friends,” Edwards said. “I also enjoyed going to rodeos and fun trips.”
Senior Brooklyn Roberts said she did socialized with those around her when she wasn’t working.
“When I was off, I usually just hung out with my friends or boyfriend,” she said. “We would go do stuff in Wichita like eat out or go shopping.”
