Wildcats prepare for district track meet

Boys track season underway with seniors’ wins in 3200m, high jump

One week ago, the Wildcats track team competed in Windthorst. Senior Matt Newton placed first in 3200 and second in the mile. Senior Darek Simmons placed first in high jump with a height of 5’8”. Sophomore Jacob Wilhelm placed third in shot put, and sophomore Coltin Knobloch placed 4th in high jump.

Simmons said this season, which is his last as a senior, started smoothly.

Simmons said. “It’s swinging by pretty easy.”

This season is considered to be challenging for various reasons, according to high school boys track Coach Tim Clark . The new regional meet setting includes new schools that weren’t competing last year, and there are a fewer number of athletes running track.

“We started the season with only a few runners, our number were way down,” Coach Clark said. “We have only nine boys. We’re working hard, getting better. In the last meet we’ve had two personal bests, that a signal that we’re moving forward.”

On March 23, the varsity boys ran in Olney. Newton took first place in the 3200. In high jump, Knobloch placed second, tying with Simmons after both jumping 5’6”.

Coach Clark said he hopes some individuals make it to the area meet.

“We are working hard, and I see a lot of improvement,” Coach Clark said.
