At the district meet the varsity boys cross country members placed third as a team, and freshman Brooke Rice finished ninth. All advanced to the regional meet on Monday in Grand Prairie. Results were unavailable at press time.

The varsity boys team includes Kameron Moss, Kannon Rice, Robin Samtlebe, Colton Canada, Seth Deerinwater, Walker Kulhanek, Seth Emrick and Ransom McDonald.

Deerinwater said this year has gone well.

“My favorite part of cross country is going to the meets,” Deerinwater said. ”I think I will do well at region. My goal is to be the best I can be. I got faster from the beginning of the year.”

Freshman Brooke Rice added that she was very excited to advance.

“I think regionals will be a good experience,” Rice said. “I have gotten in better shape since last year. I’m working on my stride and speed. My goal is to get a better time.”

Cross country coach Amy Huseman said the team ran five meets before district.

“We improved time on every runner,” Coach Huseman said. “We’ve worked hard coming early before school and even before the sun was up, and we are excited to see the results of our hard work.”

The junior high girls team of Rebecca Taggart, Kassidy Marin, Brynlee Skelton, Candace Taggart and Landri Payne placed second at the district meet.
