Student debates merits of new technology

Chromebooks were issued to every high school student this year. It’s great that the administration tried to incorporate more technology into our school, but I don’t think it’s working out. The Chromebooks have many problems.

To start off, the cases are the main issue. If there is a speck of dust or a crumb, it will find your Chromebook and never let go. With them being constructed out of a rubber-like material, they are sticky and they do not allow you to slide them in and out of spaces easily, especially your backpack.

What’s more about these defective cases is the fact that every time you wish to open your Chromebook, the case pops off. This can be fixed, but it is annoying.

Furthermore, these Chromebooks have to be carried everywhere you go. The only time you don’t have to have it on you is if it is checked in. We carry them at lunch, through the halls and to every class we have. Unfortunately, we don’t need them for any of these classes so it’s honestly just a heavy waste of space and effort.

The faculty want you to have them everywhere you go but you can’t take them home. They would be more helpful at home with homework. Many students don’t have access to computers at home.

If you don’t check them in at the end of the day, you get in trouble. First time it’s a warning and second it’s 10th period, and then after that the punishments just get worse until you are not allowed to have the chromebooks.

Moving forward with technology is a good idea but the Chromebooks would be 100 percent better if the little things could be fixed.
