Senior Morgan Wylie placed third at the regional golf meet and competed in the state meet Monday and Tuesday for the third time in his high school career. Results were unavailable at press time.

Wylie said that after his first day in the regional tournament he didn’t expect to place.

“I’m really happy with how I placed,” Wylie said, “especially since I had such a rough time the first day.”

Even though the first day didn’t go how he expected, Wylie said he is happy with how he “battled back.”

“I wanted to go to state,” Wylie said, “so I battled.”

With this being his third straight trip to state, Wylie said he is pretty comfortable.

“I’m just going to go and do my best,” Wylie said. “I don’t have to worry about advancing to the next round, so all I have to do is play to my best ability.”

Coach Donnie Gray said that he expects just that from Wylie.

“I think that Morgan will do great,” Coach Gray said. “I expect nothing but the best from him.”

Senior Katie Cooper placed fourth, two strokes away from state.

“I am not very pleased with my placing,” Cooper said. “I know I could have knocked off a couple strokes on the back nine like I did on day one.”

Cooper said that although she isn’t happy with her placing, she is happy with how she performed.

“I am very proud of Katie,” Coach Gray said. “Fourth place is nothing to be ashamed of.”
