The Prowlin’ Growlin’ Wildcat Band earned a two at region contest at the Wichita Falls Memorial Stadium on Oct. 15.
Head band director Kevin Elliston said the band has made many improvements this year with more to come.
“The students worked hard and achieved a lot and I’m proud of the accomplishments that we achieved,” Elliston said.
Assistant band director Andrew Brinkman said the judges were really harsh, as this year was an advancement year, however; the band performed their best on the day of competition.
“The band did really well and we’re proud of them,” Brinkman said.

Unable to advance to area, the band still gave an “amazing” performance, head drum major Brittany Howard said.
“I feel as if the band did extremely well playing wise with a few slip ups marching wise but great overall,” she said.
With this being the final marching performance for the seniors, many agree that their last time was their best time, senior Haizleigh Baugh said. “I’m sad we didn’t advance this year,” Baugh said. “I’m upset it’s my last, but the band gave a really good show this year.”
Senior Tucker Veitenheimer said he was happy with this as his last score, as the band gave all they had to this performance.
“I feel that we’ve done the best we have ever done this year but sadly the judges didn’t agree,” Veitenheimer said.
Given that this is the first contest for the band’s freshmen, they performed “excellently,” freshman Kaitlin Geer said.
“Considering it’s our first year we did good keeping on beat and marching,” Geer said.
Freshman Tillee Bardwell said the band gave a “pretty good” performance, adding that the freshman were “excited” for their performance from beginning to end.
“We could have improved in a few smaller areas. However, when people messed up they made their corrections seamlessly,” Bardwell said.
Some band members were sad about the competition results, junior Lauren Conner said. “This was one of our best performances when it comes to set, marching and tempo. I wish the judges could’ve seen our improvement,”
Overall the band had an outstanding show, sophomore Kelly Howard said.
“‘Caliente’ [the piece preformed] sounded really well at competition and everyone in the band agrees we deserved a far higher score,” she said.
Junior Jesse Berend said he was happy with the performance the band gave.
“We did good at competition,” Berend said, “We played good out there.”
