The varsity football team has faced changes this season.
Three new coaches have been added to the team: Monty Clay, Lukas Bontrager and Colin White. Coach Clay, who is the defensive coordinator, said he enjoys coaching the Wildcats.
“It’s very exciting and I like the fact they work hard,” Clay said. “The team is also very coachable.”
Clay said he sees the team going forward with a bright season.
Junior Noah Cornell said he set a personal goal for himself.
“I want to have at least 100 tackles this season,” Cornell said. “I also have a goal with the team. I want to get past second round.”
Cornell said he hope this will be a “great season.”
“I think that if we keep improving and practicing really hard, then we will have an awesome year,” Cornell said.
Senior Brendon Mason said a weakness is self esteem.
“We get ahead of ourselves and want to be better. We can also be over confident, yet this doesn’t work out all the time,” Mason said. “Our strength is our team bonding. We have team meals where we talk with each other and communicate. We also watch film together to see what we need to work on.”
Mason said the team needs to improve in some areas.
“We need to cooperate with each other more,” Mason said, “talk more on the field than on the sideline during games.”
Senior Kole Stovall said his personal goal is to increase the number of tackles.
“I want to bring my tackle numbers up and be ranked in the state in interceptions again,” Stovall said. “I would also like to get my first college offer in football.”
Stovall said that a team weakness is that they upset themselves.
“We really beat on ourselves a lot. We will get down on ourselves too easy and then will just let that take over,” Stovall said. “I say our team strength would probably be our big playability. You can see that on the amount of big play makers that we have on the field at all times.”
