Senior Lane Hall talks to Senior Kline Mayo on the sideline of the football game against Haskell.

The varsity football team played Windthorst and lost by one point. This put them at an overall record of 1 – 3 in district.
Junior Landon Smith and senior Kole Stovall have both been nominated for Times Record News Player of the Week.
“In order to get nominated for Player of the Week,” Smith said, “Coach Ritchie had to submit our stats to TRN.”
Stovall said that being nominated for this makes him feel appreciated.
Smith said senior Kline Mayo has taken the role of the leader on the team.
“We all play a part in being the leader and keeping each other in line,” Mayo said.

Mayo said his goals for this year are being good teammates toward each other and getting as far as they can into playoffs.
“I just want us to finish this season strong and play to the best ability we can,” Mayo said.
The team “works hard” to achieve their goal of district champs, Stovall said.
The Wildcats practice every morning except on Thursdays and Fridays.
“Mondays and Tuesdays we have to be at the school by 7 a.m.,” junior Kellar Crow said.
They lift from 7 – 7:30 a.m.
“Then on Wednesdays we get up to the school at 6 a.m. and do a full practice,” Crow said.
On Wednesdays the boys only have the morning practice and then lift in the afternoon during the athletic period.
“This is my favorite day of practice because we get our practice done in the morning and then after school we have time to hang out with our friends and family,” Crow said.
On Thursdays, the boys do a run through and go over their plays.
“Thursdays are very important because we take that time to talk about what we need to stay focused on during the game,” Smith said. “We have to study our plays constantly and this helps clear up any confusion we may have.”
Fridays are game day.
“This is the day we’ve been waiting for all week,” Smith said. “All of our practices have prepared us to do our best on Fridays and based on our practices is how well we do on Friday night.”
The boys have two more weeks of football until playoffs.
“I just want to give it our all these next two weeks,” Crow said.
