The varsity Ladycat softball team started their run in playoffs. Their first series was against the Nocona Lady Indians, when they won bi-district. They then went on to play at area when they lost against the Honey Grove Lady Indians.
Sophomore Millie Mayo said she’s sad that it’s over.
“Even though we’re done, we still did really well,” Mayo said. “In both series, I didn’t do the best on my hitting, but I did really well in the field. In the Honey Grove game, I definitely could’ve done better at the plate. To improve for next year, I will practice a lot more and work harder.”
Junior Addison Canada said the team played really well.
“In the playoffs, I think I did pretty good,” Canada said. “My goals that I had for the series’ were to do the best I could and never give up. Something I could’ve done better for the area round is pitching. As I get ready for next year, I’ll practice more outside of the season.”
Coach Kent Kyle said the team showed improvement.
“I thought the team continued to improve as we went through the playoffs,” Kyle said. “I was hopeful that we would make it out of the area round, but unfortunately, we did not.”
Sophomore Myah Ferguson said the team tried their hardest.
“Something I’m proud that we did was never give up,” Ferguson said. “We also kept our energy up even when we weren’t doing our best. I also tried to stay positive and do the best I could for the team. When I was pitching, I could’ve hit my spots better. To prepare for next year, I’m going to practice all year long, instead of just during the season.”
Assistant Coach Renea Getts said she was proud of the growth shown.
“I think we did really well,” Getts said. “While playing Nocona, we were aggressive at the plate and hit the ball hard. Pitchers worked hard and hit their spots in the zone. Our defense was outstanding. For area, we continued to work on both defense and offense. We worked on situational plays while focusing on fundamentals and being vocal on the field. We did a lot of hitting in the cages working on timing and correct form using extra tee work.”
Getts said defense and pitching was good, but the team could’ve worked more on hitting.
“I have very high expectations for the future,” Getts said. “We will use that defeat to drive us to work even harder in the future. I have no doubt that we will come back with more grit and determination to improve and grow stronger together.”
