The 2026 Texas Longhorns softball team, led by head coach Mike White in his eighth season, entered as defending NCAA National Champions. Home games are played at Red and Charline McCombs Field in Austin, Texas. Currently, as of April 2026, the team holds a 35-8 overall record and sits near the top of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) standings.
Some of the key players are Reese Atwood, a premier hitter and anchor of the offense. Teagan Kavan, the team’s ace pitcher, is recognized as a proven big game talent. Viviana Martinez solidifies the infield at shortstop. Leighann Goode is a strong offensive contributer. Ashton Maloney, Kayden Henry and Katie Stewart are also recognized as key contributers and were named to the 2026 USA Softball Collegate Player of the Year watch list. The team lost major contributers from the 2025 title team, including Mia Scott and Joley Mitchell.
This year the the offense is considered one of the top 10 in the nation. An interesting fact is that the 2026 team set a new program record with a 26-game winning streak. Another cool fact is that legend Cat Osterman is one of the most celebrated pitchers in NCAA history, finishing her Texas career (2002-2006) with 2,265 strikeouts and a staggering 14.34 strikeous per seven- inning ratio.
The team had won one national championship prior to the 2025 win. Texas had made multiple WCWS appearances, including reaching the championship series in 2022 and 2024, but had never won a title until 2025. The Texas softball team is known for strong defensive capabilities and an aggressive, high scoring offense designed to win close games.
The Texas Longhorns are currently a top contender for the 2026 Women’s College World Series, but their spot is not yet officially guaranteed as the regular season is still ongoing. The Longhorns have only lost to Oklahoma, Alabama and Georgia. To return to the World Series, Texas typically needs to finish as a top-16 national seed to host a regional series and top-8 seed to host a super regional. Their current top-10 rankings puts them in a strong position to secure these hosting advantages.
