The band performed their annual spring concert with multiple types of music ranging from “Aladdin” to “Moscow 1941.”
Band director Andrew Brinkman said the band has had constant practices.
“To practice we’ve just played songs over and over again,” he said. “All of this preparation work was to ensure everything sounds good so the crowd can enjoy.”
Freshman Kynleigh Schroeder said practices help her make perfect.
“I was most excited to play ‘Aladdin’ because I play for most of it,” she said. “We were preparing for a few months, and all the practices and everything came together really nicely.”
Freshman Faith Franke said she liked playing “unique” songs.
“I have to say Moscow was probably my favorite part of the entire concert,” she said. “It was just an interesting song to play.”
Senior Ethan Pettibon said the concert was a good way to show the band’s progress from the start of the year to the end of the year.
“I was honestly the most excited to hear how everything sounded together at the end,” Pettibon said. “This final concert also was a good way to show our improvements and everything we’ve done throughout the year.”
Freshman John Kocks said he likes playing music.
“My favorite part was playing a Russian song,” he said. “I enjoyed all of it though because being in band is generally just fun, and when it all comes together it’s complete.”
Eighth grader Kooper Keeter said being in the high school band shows great achievements.
“Being in eighth grade and already participating in the high school band makes me feel really accomplished,” Keeter said. “I’ve also like playing with my friends and learning from my upperclassmen.”
Pettibon said his final concert was to be one to remember.
“We’ve had more people this year that actually care about what they’re doing which makes it a big difference from prior years,” he said. “It’s going to be sad because I’ve done band for the past four years, and most of my time in high school was spent in the band hall. I’m also excited for my new adventures to come, and hopefully the band will be able to continue growing.”
Franke said she enjoyed playing in the spring concert.
“I think the spring concert went really good because we worked together as a band,” she said. “Every song came along nicely together, and it ended up actually sounding really good.”
Kocks said patience is key when it comes to a good performance.
“We’ve been practicing since the beginning of January,” Kocks said. “It all came out very well, so if I’m being honest, all that practice really made it worth the wait.”
Keeter said she will be going into the following year with gratitude.
“I don’t think actually being in high school will make much of a change,” she said, “but I’ll be going into the year much more prepared and thankful for my fellow clarinets that helped me improve along the way.”
