Christmas on the Square
The Prowlin’ Growlin’ Wildcat Band performed at Christmas on The Square on Dec. 4 and will perform their Christmas concert on Dec. 18.
“My favorite part of Christmas on the Square was playing with the band and going to the shops,” freshman Kynleigh Schroeder said.
Fourteen junior high students auditioned at the Region 7 North Zone district band Nov. 8 and, 14 high school students auditioned the Nov. 15.
The students who participated in the high school auditions were Ethan Pettibon, Chloe Tinnon, Jaxon Policky, Bubba Chisum, McKenzie Bradshaw, Donovan Schultz, Henry Gonzales, Paislee Getts, Heather Schroeder, Carter Battles, Seth Kinzie and Kynleigh Schroeder.
Chisum, Getts, Battles and Kinzie earned a chair.
Kinzie said that he wasn’t too surprised but was glad that he placed seventh.
”
Battles said that he wasn’t expecting to place fifth.
“I felt nervous,” Battles said. “I expected to get a lot lower than what I got.”
Band Director Anthony Flores said that he is proud.
“When it comes to district and region band auditions, it really comes down to how bad you want it,” Flores said. “ That alone should be enough motivation, no matter how much time you have.”
The students who participated in the junior high auditions were Jessi Alvarez, Alice Beasley, Gabe Dewey, Jose Estrada, Adylee Howell, Kooper Keeter, Emory Kincaid, Zerah Ridenour, Henry Sexton, Sasha Speck, Tiffany Speck, Ava Welch, Trip Young and Ayla Zorola.
Keeter, Estrada, and Young earned a chair.
Keeter said she didn’t expect to get a chair in the wind ensemble.
“I felt very nervous, and I didn’t expect to do as good because I didn’t have as much time to practice as I did last year, and the music was hard,” Keeter said.
Assistant Band Director Andrew Brinkman said the junior high students did very well.
“The competition at junior high district is very high, but most of them all put in their best effort,” Brinkman said. “Of course, more time is always helpful, but I think all the students worked hard.”
