Three athletes competed at North Richland Hills for regional tennis on April 20. Sophomore Millie Mayo advanced in girls singles while sophomore Seth Truette and Ashlyn Harvey competed in mixed doubles.
“Millie received a tough draw this year at regionals,” Coach Haley Owen said. “I was very proud of how well she competed, and it proves that she is very capable of being among the top finishers next year.”
“It was awesome to see that the work they put in this season paid off,” Owen said.
All three also competed at region last year.
“It feels really good and rewarding to go,” Truette said “I am just hoping to continue the streak next year.”
Mayo also said it felt good to advance to region.
Truette, Harvey and Mayo said they all handle pressure differently on the court.
“I think I handled it good, but I could have done better,” Harvey said.
“There are some things we need to work on, but we did good,” Truette said.
Owen said that her goal is always to get better.
“I would say they all met that goal,” Owen said.
“The goal is to do better and to go to day two,” Truette said.
Mayo said that her goal is to do better in tournaments.
“I’m hoping to get more points for the seeding,” Mayo said. “I hope to advance to state.”
Owen said that both teams really improved throughout this season.
