During summer, Archer City does workouts for students to get work in. They help them stay consistent and not get out of shape, but summer is two months of freedom from school. People are made to go to summer workouts. If not, they have to do extra workouts during two-a-days. Summer workouts are two hours long and that’s two hours of students’ summer.
Summer workouts should not be required due to all the time they take. Some students live far away and can’t get there. They have to wake up extra early, and parents have jobs, so it’s hard for them to get there. Then they have to do extra work after two-a-days because of something that they can’t help. It’s not only hard on students but parents as well, and they aren’t the ones that have to go.
People go on vacations during summer and students have to skip vacation just to go to workouts. Not only does it take up people’s vacation, but students have jobs and have to be there to make money. Students don’t want to go to summer workouts and then head straight to work sweaty and tired if their jobs will work around workout hours.
Students also participate in summer leagues, which already take enough time during the break. If people have summer league, then why do we need summer workouts? Most students attend camps like basketball, volleyball or cross country camps. Those things can keep students in shape, not just summer workouts. Kids who are required to do summer workouts for their sport could cause a shortage of athletes in the athletic department.
Summer is time to go on break and have fun. It’s hard to do that when every morning at 7 a.m., four days a week, they have to go to workouts. Students have worked all year and don’t even get a two-month break because of summer workouts. Waking up in the morning every day at 6 a.m. is exhausting, especially for four days every week.
Overall, summer workouts is too time consuming, tiring and a waste of time since students can choose to workout when they want to and do summer camps. Not wanting to wake up at 6 a.m. to go workout should not be an issue.
Summer is time for a break and to hang out with friends, plan trips and get away from all the stress that comes from classes and sports. Summer is time for fun, vacations and rest, and summer workouts are ruining that. Students have a life outside of athletics and want to enjoy summer that is only two months long. Two hours a day for four days is basically going to school during summer.
