Summertime is a three month long break from school, work and athletics, but losing the only place for some kids to workout and exercise is not good. That’s why summer workouts exist. Summer workouts can help for many reasons, such as health, keeping people active and bringing people together. Workouts help build routine and prevent people from getting rusty. It can also help train for sports such as volleyball, basketball, tennis, track, cross-country and more. In the summertime people are often isolated, so summer workouts are a good way to connect to others who might be a future teammate or classmate.
Summer workouts are great for junior high and freshmen and can prepare them for the future. College is a good example of what to train for. Some student athletes will want to do a sport in college, and summer workouts help them get ready to train and work. Additionally, summer workouts can help kids get up early and see what’s in store for them.
The University of Interscholastic League states a workout should be no longer than two hours a week, Monday through Friday. Summer workouts also help with sport specifics, but it says only 90 minutes per day. Also, attendance is voluntary and not required in order to try out for or participate in any UIL activity. With all of these regulations, summer workouts could be hard to plan. But if they put in the effort to show up and work, the coaches will see that.
With all of these rules, it might seem that summer workouts are too strict or stupid, but exercise is very important. Seventy-five percent of teenagers in the grades of seventh-12 aren’t getting enough exercise. There are lots of factors why exercise has depleted, for example phones. Kids love to go on their phones instead of going outside. I won’t say I’m not guilty of it either, but it’s not healthy. Summer workouts help fix this problem; instead of rotting on their phones, kids are able to do physical activities.
Summertime workouts are needed to keep kids fit, and sometimes that does not happen. Not only does physical activity help kids, but it can help all ages. In life, movement is needed to function. Exercise should stay the same no matter the age. Summer workouts are necessary for the future generation.
