The varsity baseball team players finished off their season with a loss against Nocona in their bi-district playoff series.
The team lost the first two games against Nocona, scoring one run the first game and three runs the second game.
“The guys played well both games. The pitching and defense were what kept us in the game,” Coach Michael Wolf said. “We just struggled being able to manufacture runs in both games.”
Despite the loss, senior Brody Reneau said the players felt they had played good defense.
“Since our defense was good, we held Nocona for most of the game,” Reneau said. “Then when we went into extra innings, we let them score runs, so we ended up losing.”
Because the team felt they had the ability to win the games, it was hard to lose, said sophomore Seth Truette.
“We all knew we had the skill to win the games, but it didn’t turn out how we wanted it to,” Truette said. “It is just a hard feeling when you lose and you thought you were going to win.”
The team had an overall record of 9-12 and finished district with a 7-3 record.
senior Shooter Canada said. “Our district record shows the improvements we made by the end.”
Sophomore Tanner Deerinwater agreed with Canada’s comment about improvements made.
“We definitely improved throughout the season by a lot,” Deerinwater said.
Senior Parker Hilbers said the team did not score well.
“That was probably our biggest weakness, but overall we were strong,” Hilbers said.
Throughout the offseason, the players will be working to extend their playoff run next season, said sophomore Ty Gary.
“We will be working out hard in the weight room to get stronger,” Gary said. “We will also work on things like hitting, bunting and routine plays. I am excited to put in the work for next season.”
