Different Volunteering opportunities.
Although college and scholarship applications ask about volunteering, a group of students has helped for other reasons.
Sophomore Alaura Hulsey has volunteered at Eagle River High School.
“It was incredibly rewarding, and I truly enjoyed it,” Hulsey said.
Junior Dereck McGrew said volunteering was really fun.
“When I volunteered at the fire department, I would help out with my dad,” McGrew said.
Sophomore Reed Truette said he had a good experience volunteering because he helped others.
“I got started by greeting people at the doors of my church,” Truette said.
Junior Ella Gollihugh said she found motivation to help at the Humane Society.
Sophomore Seth Truette said that he likes volunteering because he likes being able to set a good example.
“Making an impact on others’ lives makes me want to volunteer more,” he said.
Hulsey said that other people realizing that she is there to support them makes her want to help out.
“It is genuinely fulfilling to witness the smiles on people’s faces when I volunteer,” Hulsey said.
Reed Truette said he is motivated to help others because he knows what he is doing benefits not only him, but the community.
“It also benefits the others that are affected by my volunteering,” he said.
Students started volunteering in different ways.
“Me and my friends would walk the dogs and play with the cats up at the Humane Society,” Gollihugh said.
Hulsey said that she started volunteering because of opportunities at the previous school she attended.
“At my previous school, we had informational sheets displayed on the walls that outlined our tasks, along with the specific time and locations we need to be,” Hulsey said.
Seth Truette said that he started because of his parents.
“After a while, I started to want to do more volunteering,” Seth Truette said.
Hulsey said she has gained valuable insights.
“I learned more time management and the importance of treating others as I would like to be treated,” Hulsey said.
Reed Truette said that he has learned social skills.
“It has allowed me to communicate with others better,” Truette said.
Seth Truette said that he learned more people skills.
“Overall, I learned important life skills that will help me in the future,” Truette said
