Travel club sports offer ways to be athletic and play without the pressure of a school.
“I started softball by my sister pitching to me, and I would catch the ball,” eighth grader Hadley Canada said.
Junior Ella Gollihugh said she started playing softball because her dad wanted her to try it out.
“I really liked softball after I gave it a try,” Gollihugh said
Junior Addison Canada played softball on her dad’s team.
“I started playing when I was 10 years old,” Addison Canada said.
Sophomore Seth Truette said he found tournament fishing from watching it on YouTube and seeing it on social media.
“Since our school doesn’t have a team, I found a school nearby that does,” Truette said.
Sophomore Reed Truette said he found an interest in travel baseball when he was 4 years old.
“I had played league before, but I started to play travel baseball around third grade,” Reed Truette said.
Fifth grader Nolan Hillis said he started playing football because his friends told him about it.
“I joined it because it seemed fun, and I get to hang out with my friends while tackling people,” Hillis said.
Gollihugh said she enjoys softball because she can play with her friends.
“I also enjoy it because I can be competitive,” Gollihugh said.
Hadley Canada said she likes softball because she can also bond with her friends.
“I also enjoy it because if someone new joins the team, I can also try to become friends with them,” she said.
Seth Truette said he likes fishing because he’s been fishing for a long time.
“Fishing is one of my favorite things to do,” he said.
Addison Canada said she enjoys softball because she can play with her friends.
“I enjoy it because it helps me not do bad when I play softball with the school,” she said.
Reed Truette said he likes travel baseball because he is very competitive.
“I also just enjoy baseball, and it keeps me in shape for all of the other school sports,” he said.
Even though people enjoy travel sports, they can get in the way.
Hadley Canada said softball can have a negative impact when it comes to spending time with friends on the weekend.
“It gets in the way of sleepovers because I am at softball games,” she said.
