Three tennis players are advancing to the regional tournament on April 20-21 in North Richland Hills: sophomores Millie Mayo, Ashlyn Harvey and Seth Truette.
The varsity and JV teams competed at the district tournament March 31 and April 2 at Hamilton Park in Wichita Falls.
Mayo was the district champion in girls singles.
“It felt rewarding,” Mayo said, “and I was proud of myself.”
Harvey and Truette were the district runner-up in mixed doubles.
“I’m proud of me and Seth for working well together,” Harvey said. “My goal for regionals is to compete as hard as we can.”
Truette said placing second gives them something to aim for next year.
“We’re going to practice on things we struggle with to get ready for regionals,” he said.
Junior Jocelyn Tedrow and sophomore Adelyn Winter placed third in girls doubles and are the regional alternates.
Winter said she thinks that she and Tedrow played well.
“Overall, I think we improved from last season
,” Winter said.
Freshman Faith Franke was the JV girls singles runner-up, and juniors
Makaylee McCown and Madelyn Tedrow were the JV girls doubles runner-up.
“It was really fun and exciting,” McCown said “Playing tennis made me feel active and challenged, and I enjoyed being outside.”
Freshmen Raynee Smith and Kaylee Kolacek finished fourth in girls doubles.
Smith said that she thinks she played well.
“It was my first year to ever do tennis,” Smith said.
Senior Chloe Hibbs placed fourth in girls singles, and
senior Maddox Mayo finished fourth in boys singles.
“I was really proud of myself for competing well enough to have a shot to play for third,” Hibbs said, “however, I was disappointed that I lost in that game and ended up fourth. I was looking forward to a medal but either way it was a great season.”
Coach Haley Owen said it was a successful tournament.
“All our athletes competed great with five medaling and three heading to regionals,” Owen said.1
