Students attend Shakespeare play

Freshmen through seniors went to watch the Shakespeare play “Romeo and Juliet” at Rider High School on Nov. 6.
“I liked the play, but I was confused on some parts of it,” freshman Kaitey David said.
David said the play was confusing because of the dialogue.
“My favorite part of the play was when Mercutio started dancing on stage, but I didn’t like when Romeo and Juliet made out,” David said.
Sophomore Emily Anderson claimed that her favorite part of the play was also when Mercutio was dancing on the stage.
“I thought the play was very interesting because I’ve never seen ‘Romeo and Juliet’ before,” Anderson said.
Anderson also didn’t like how Romeo and Juliet made out on the stage.
“It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the best either,” freshman Addi Canada said.
Canada liked the singing and dancing the most because she said she didn’t understand the play.
“I couldn’t understand the communication between the characters, so it wasn’t my favorite,” Canada said.
English teacher Carol Campbell said that the actors preformed well.
“They did a good job, but you can’t take a five -part play and make it one hour. They did a nice job, but to present in over an hour is cheating the audience to a certain extent about Shakespeare’s skill,” Campbell said.
Campbell said the actors played many roles in the play.
“The actors did a good job because they played multiple roles. It was difficult for who played Mrs. Lawrence to play multiple roles. She had to be a nurse and Miss Friar Lawrence. She was being a priest and for her to be a nurse and come out and play a man was difficult,” Campbell said.
