The Prowlin’ Growlin’ Wildcat Band is preparing for graduation, the spring concert and a trip to Austin while students are participating in jazz band and percussion ensemble.
“It’s some final things I get to participate in before I graduate,” senior Brittany Howard said, “so I like being so busy.”
For the first time in over 20 years, the PGWB is playing at graduation.
“It’s a cool new thing we’re doing,” sophomore Ethan Pettibon said. “I’m excited to play for our leaving seniors.”
On May 2 at the spring concert, the band played “Aladdin” by Michael Sweeney, “Pirates of the Caribbean” by Klaus Badelt and part of the first movement of their next year’s marching show “Pure Imagination” by Luke McMillain.
“I picked ‘Aladdin’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ to go along with the next year show’s theme Disney,” head director Anthony Flores said.
On the band trip, the PGWB played at the Texas Capitol in Austin. They played two pieces, “Deep in the Heart of Texas” by Paul Yoder and, “Spirit of Texas” by Claude T. Smith.
“I’m was really excited to play at the capital but really nervous at the same time,” sophomore Seth Kinzie said.
The new jazz band consists of eighth – 12th graders and played the piece “Earth, Wind, and Fire” by Paul Murtha and “I Want it That Way” arranged by John Berry at the spring concert.
“I was the reason he started the jazz band,” senior Artem Clay said, “because I talked about it a lot.”
For the first time ever, the PGWB has a percussion ensemble that performed at Howard Payne’s band festival on April 19 and earned straight ones.
