The cross country teams start their season on Sept. 11 in Chico and district starts on Oct. 9.
“We have been practicing at 6:30 a.m. at the golf course,” Coach Kent Kyle said.
Kyle said he is very impressed with what he has seen from everyone so far.
“I average about 20 runners at practice every day, and they all show up and work hard,” Kyle said.
Kyle said everyone is working hard to prepare for the first meet.
“I show up to practice as much as possible and work hard,” junior Emily Anderson said. “I also listen to Coach Kyle’s advice and apply it.”
The athletes participating have goals for this season.
“I think of my sister Kassidy’s records and I keep pushing to be better,” seventh grader Kamdyn Marin said. “My goal is to beat Kassidy’s records this season.”
The athletes work to stay motivated and push themselves until the finish.
“I just keep on running until I can’t run anymore,” junior Jesse Cantu said.
Cantu said he enjoys running and thought he would be a good addition to the team.
“I think that I am pretty good at running, and I enjoy it,” Cantu said. “I want to at least make it to regionals this year because I didn’t last year and my goal is to improve.”
Kyle said both the junior high and high school teams have worked hard and have the capability to perform.
“Both of my junior high teams should do well,” Kyle said. “High school really depends on how training progresses from here until district on Oct. 9, but they have the potential to do really well too.”
