The Prowlin’ Growlin’ Wildcat Band scored a two at the regional marching contest at the Wichita Falls Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
“The band performed very well,” head band director Anthony Flores said. “I loved seeing their faces as we came off the field. We did not get the results we wanted, but we have and will continue improving.”
Junior Tillee Bardwell said she felt like the band did best on the third movement of the show.
“I feel like we did well,” Bardwell said. “We definitely had some points that we could have improved on, but we did our best. Synchronizing with our tempo definitely could have helped.”
Flores said the band still needs to work on fundamentals, but agreed that their final movement was their strongest.
“Our main goal has been to continue growing as musicians and be more confident individually and as an ensemble,” Flores said. “We have been working more on reading notes and rhythms which will continue to help us read music better in the future.”
In preparation for the contest, the band shifted from practicing once a week to twice a week for two hours.
“We have definitely gotten better at picking up on corrections faster and polished up our playing,” junior Ethan Pettibon said. “I’m optimistic about how our show is turning out.”
Senior Kelly Howard said she feels like the band has improved on organization but still needs to work on “knowing when it’s show time.”
“The show this year has a lot more meaning than just playing the music, so it has been one of my favorites,” Howard said. “My favorite part has got to be the third movement. My part is interesting and fun to play once you get into it.”
Their show includes music from “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” and “The Greatest Showman.”
“I love our show,” Flores said. “Marching and playing for seven minutes straight is not easy, and with many of our band members participating in other sports and electives, I am proud of how they handled this year.”
