OVERALL: The junior varsity football team is 5
-2.
DISTRICT: The Wildcats are 1-4.
BRIGHT SPOTS: After already having nine games, freshman Seth Truette said the team has several strengths.
“Our strength is the way we can work together even in tough situations,” Truette said.”I feel like our sophomores have been good role models and have showed us freshmen how we should act toward each other.”
INSIDE SCOOP: After five players moved up to varsity, the team had to figure out how they were going to fill those spots.
”We had to refill positions that we lost. Most of those spots have been filled by freshmen,” sophomore Cy Wooldridge said.”We lost more than we gained so it’s a lot harder on our starters because we have to stay in the whole game.”
COACHES VIEW: Since varsity and JV have to practice together, they had to figure out how they can put in the work while also sharing the field with varsity. ”We get as much reps in as we can with varsity. We practice in the morning Monday-Wednesday and for about an hour after school,” Coach Erik Garcia said.
ATHLETES VIEW: After losing some of their secondary on defense, the team has struggled, sophomore Grayson Jeter said.
”Our secondary on defense has been having trouble which has really affected our chances of winning,” Jeter said. ”I hope we work more on defense at practice and stop goofing off.”
