The football team’s season came to end Nov. 21 against Alvord.
“Even though we didn’t go as far as we’d like, we had a great season,” senior Noah Cornell said.
Cornell received 1st Team Running Back and Linebacker for his district awards.
Cornell said. “Receiving these awards made me feel like all my hard work has finally been recognized.”
Junior Shooter Canada received Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year.
“I worked hard this year to ensure that I was doing everything possible for my team,” Canada said. “This award made me feel seen and I’m so grateful to receive it.” Landon Smith received the Most Valuable Player award.
“This has been the most fun year of football,” Smith said. “I worked hard and tried my best to help my team excel.”
Senior Johnathan Clay was awarded Defensive Lineman of the Year.
“I’m so grateful to be recognized by this,” Clay said. “We’ve all have worked our hardest and I’m so grateful that we are all getting recognized for it.”
Senior Alejandro Rodriguez was 1st Team offensive Line.
“I worked hard all year,” Rodriguez said. “I am so proud of our team.”
Smith gained a back injury that prevented him from playing as much as usual.
” A guy tried to injury me and he succeeded,” Smith said. “It was heart breaking. I went in for maybe four play the whole game against Alvord.â
Smith said he felt hopeless.
“I didn’t want to let my team down,” Smith said, but I physically could not move.”
Cornell said he played his heart out the last game.
“When I stepped on that field I knew this was the game I had to give it my all,” Cornell said. ” With Landon hurt I had to step up and lead.”
Cornell said at the end of the game he immediately was sad.
“It all hit me,” Cornell said.”This was my last football game ever. I’m so incredibly sad and wish that I could step on the field one more time.”
Smith said that he is proud of his team.
“We had a great season,” Smith said.” We showed everyone that we could win any game, no matter who we were playing. We had people tell us we weren’t good enough and we proved them wrong. I am so proud of this team and I’m so glad that I got to spend my senior year with such incredible people.”
