The high school one-act play group is preparing their performance of “The Audition is Over” for the district contest that will be held March 27 in Seymour.
“The cast and crew members seem to get along well with each other and the relationships of the show are a little easier to develop because they are similar to real-life relationships they have off-stage,” director Leslie Graham said. “The students are also used to how Mrs. [Becky] Nogle and I tend to do things in rehearsal and contest so they understand our sometimes crazy ways to pull the show together.”
Freshman Kaylee Kolacek said she is excited for the contest as an opportunity to see their improvement and “hard work pay off.”
“Our play has a really good story, and our cast works really well together,” Kolacek said. “I think we can make our characters come to life on stage.”
Junior Chloe Hibbs said dialogue is a major focus during practices.
“I’m excited to be able to play a funny character,” Hibbs said. “If we can focus and get our lines memorized, I think we will do well with it.”
The group practices on Mondays, Thursdays and some Sundays.
“Right now we are mainly focusing on remembering lines,” freshman Haylie Howell said. “I’m very confident in the play and looking forward to the competition.”
Freshman Xavier Robinson said he feels like the play will turn out well once everyone has lines memorized.
“We are working on placement and entrances a lot right now,” Robinson said. “I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing us win.”
Graham said that an advantage of the play is that it is a true one-act show, instead of scenes pulled from a three-act show.
“We have been surprised at how quickly we can get through the script in rehearsal as we are working on it, so we are hoping that translates into us not having to worry so much about being over time like we have in the past,” Graham said.
