The Wildcat baseball team is 2-1 in the district. Results from Tuesday’s game were unavailable at press time.
“My goal for this season is to excel in all of my positions,” senior Noah Cornell said.
Cornell plays a series of positions.
“I play shortstop, third base, left field and pitcher,” Cornell said.
Cornell said that the team’s goals include making it to playoffs.
“This is my last year,” Cornell said. “I really want to make it to playoffs and win a game or two.”
Senior Isaac Dieguez said that the team is looking good.
“We’ve been practicing every day,” Dieguez said. “I feel very enthusiastic about this season.”
Dieguez said that he expects the team to excel in district.
“We don’t have a very hard district,” Diegues said. “As long as we work as a team and all put effort into the games, we should have a chance at receiving a playoff position.”
Junior Parker Hillbers plays second base.
“Ever since I broke my elbow last year, I have stuck with second base,” Hilbers said. “This benefits my arm and the team.”
Hilbers said that he loved pitching.
“Pitcher was definitely my favorite position,” Hilbers said. “But after rehab, we decided it was best if I played at a position that would put less stress on my arm.”
Freshmen Seth and Reed Truette said they are committed to improving the team.
“We play all over the field, but my favorite is when I’m pitching and Reed is catching,” Seth said.
Reed said that he likes playing catcher.
“Catcher is my favorite position because I can see the whole field,” Reed said. “Being a catcher comes with hard work, but the thrill of it makes it worth it.”
Baseball coach Collin White said he expects good things this season.
“I have faith in these boys,” White said. “We should have a good record in district and make playoffs.”
