Track athletes advance to regional meet
Senior Madison Lucido and juniors Olivia Kellar, Maeley Herring, Bailey Rice and Audry Lopez made up this year’s 200 meter relay team.
Eight athletes competed in the regional track meet on April 29-30 in Dallas.
Regional track results are as follows:
100m: 3rd- Madison Lucido
800m relay: 6th- Bailey Rice, Maeley Herring, Olivia Kellar and Madison Lucido
800m: 7th- Taylor Sims
Mile: 7th- Sims
High jump: 8th- Darek Simmons
Long jump: 9th- Rice
Discus: 11th- Lauren Castles
3200m: 11th- Matt Newton
Some athletes performed better than they anticipated.
“I wasn’t expecting to get as far as I did because of my knee injury,” Lucido said.
“I looked up in the stands before my race and saw my mom crying; it was just a really good way for me to end the season.”
