Varsity works to win
Ladycats off to winning start in pre-district volleyball
The Ladycats are off to a winning start with a record of 20-9.
New coach Krissa Johnson said that it’s important that the girls continue to work as hard as they did during summer volleyball in order to improve.
“The girls worked very hard this summer and they haven’t slowed down in their practice,” Coach Johnson said. “They continue to improve as a team.”
Last year, the Ladycats made it all the way to state before losing to Lindsay. This year, the team hopes that they’ll make it again.
“This year we’re trying to go all the way,” senior Madison Lucido said. “We want to win state this time!”
The Ladycats lost three teammates, seniors Ashtyn Wuthrich (who was injured) and Logan Self, and freshman outside hitter Jordan Dortch, who moved at the end of the year.
“There’s a lot of pressure for the girls to do as well as they did last year,” Coach Johnson said. “We are a different team than we were last year, so we can’t be defined by last year, but that doesn’t mean we still don’t want to get that far and farther.”
The girls have been working on their skills and becoming closer as a team as well.
“As a team we have a better connection and less drama than last year,” Lucido said. “We’ve bonded better, so our communication, on and off the volleyball court, has gotten a lot better.”
