JH volleyball team continues to grow

The junior high volleyball teams finished their season Monday. Results were unavailable at press time.
Before that game the seventh grade team had an 8-4 overall record.  The eighth grade team’s overall record was 9 – 3.
With coaches leaving last year,  junior high math teacher Kent Kyle and kindergarten teacher Renae Getts were asked to step in and coach junior high volleyball.
Getts said she enjoys coaching the seventh grade girls.
“I have coached most of these girls through league volleyball since their first year which was third grade,” Getts said.
Seventh grader Ava Blair said that the season is going pretty decent.
“It feels good knowing that we have won more game than we have lost,” Blair said.
Blair said the team’s strengths are the setters.
“We have very good setters who can fly across the court and get the ball up,” Blair said. “Our hitters are also good, and if we get back a good approach, we can hit hard and fast.”
Getts said that they should add more excitement to their games.
“We need to have more spirit and chants.” Getts said.
Blair said practicing against the more experienced players make them better.
“I feel that our team gets better if we practice against the eighth grade and work on the things that we mess up on most at games,” Blair said. “At practice we do a lot of drills and most of them help us get better at serving, transitioning or passing.”
Kyle said the season keeps gets more exciting.
“I enjoy seeing the growth of young people as players and as people,” Kyle said.
Coach Getts said she would like to see the team learn and improve more.
“I love to see them succeed. I tend to be very competitive so I enjoy being able to watch them compete and win,” Getts said. “

I would like to see the team continue to improve in all areas of volleyball

…there’s always room for improvement no matter how good you are.”
