The Ladycat volleyball team has been facing a challenging district. So far the Ladycats are 3 – 3, defeating Olney twice and Petrolia and falling to Nocona twice and Windthorst. Results of Tuesdays game against Windthorst were unavailable at press time.
”We knew going into the game against Petrolia we needed to win to place the way we want to,” sophomore Brilee Canada said. “We didn’t play good and went into five sets with the last set score being 16-14.”
The Ladycats have a goal to be third in district.
”We knew coming into the season we would be going against two tough teams,” head coach Krissa England said. “Now that we have already played them, we will be more prepared for next time.”
The team is shooting for third is district to secure a spot in playoffs.
”Making it to playoffs my freshman year is a big goal for me,” freshman Millie Mayo said.
“I believe if we work hard we can go past the first round.”
Sophomore Jocelyn Tedrow said she has big goals for this season.
”My goal is to be more confident and not get down on myself when I make mistakes,” Tedrow said. “I want to be bigger at the block so that next year I can lead the team with the most blocks.”
Junior Serenity Jones has goals she wants to achieve this season as well.
”My goal for this year is to get my arm stronger for next years season,” Jones said.
Tedrow said they practice daily to get better. âIn practice we separate into groups of hitter and defense to improve the groups working together. Most days we do serve-receive in a certain amount of time,” Tedrow said. ”If we don’t get the number that England wants we run and try again,”Tedrow said.
Tedrow said the team needs to improve to achieve goals ”What we need to do to get better as a team is to not let mistakes affect our whole set,” Tedrow said.
Mayo said teamwork is needed in order to be better overall. ”We need to get better as a team by working together and working hard in practice,” Mayo said.
England said that team has had their ups and downs but wants to get better from this point.
”Our team has a lot of potential and I know we can get better and reach goals we have set for ourselves,” England said. ”All of the girls have so much potential and if they put their minds to it and be disciplined we can go as far as we want,” England said.
