With district starting Sept. 23 the varsity volleyball team is preparing.
“To be where I want to be in district we have to beat Petrolia, Olney and Quannah,” Coach Krissa Englandsaid. “We can get second in district by winning these games.”
Freshman Brilee Canada said being on varsity as a freshman is exciting.
“Coming up from eighth grade and starting on varsity was very scary,” Canada said. “After a couple of games and practices, things got less scary and easier.”
Out of 16 game including tounement games they have won 9.
“We struggle a lot offensively,” England said. “We are practicing a lot and there is progress being made.”
Junior Alyssa Schroeder has been moved around the court.
“I used to be a setter but coach moved me to back row,” Schroeder said. “I’ve played some front row this season and I really enjoyed it.”
Sophomore Serenity Jones and senior Caitlyn Hilbers play all the way around the court.
“It’s very tiring but also so much fun playing both offense and defense,” Jones said. “Our defense has come a long way from the start of the season.”
There is going to be changes made to the team before going into distict.
“I think that some games we just lack energy and drive,” said Senior Brynlee Skelton. “We need to work hard on the energy on the court and be excited when our team makes good plays.”
There are seven seniors on the team and they want to go as far as possible with it being their last year.
“We can go as far as we let ourselves go,” Hilbers said. “We need to work hard for what we want.”
