The varsity Ladycats are 5-2 in district, defeating Quanah, Olney and Petrolia each twice, losing only against Windthorst. The Ladycats will face Hico for bi-district at 6 p.m. Oct. 31 in Weatherford.
The Ladycats started the second round of the district games playing Quanah first.
“We won in three sets again and played really well,” England said.
The ladies’ only district loss came against Windthorst.
“I knew Windthorst was going to be a tough team but we did better than expected,” head coach Krissa England said.
Senior Kaitlyn Casillas said she was surprised on how well they played with Windthorst.
“Defense was very good,” Casillas said. “We got up hard-driven balls that we normally wouldn’t get up.”
Senior Caitlyn Hilbers said the team put in hard work against Windthorst and it paid off. She was pleased with the way they played in the first and second set.
“Playing bigger school in our non-district games challenged us,” Hilbers said. “When we stayed with the bigger schools, it helped prepare us for district games like Windthorst,” Hilbers said.
The Ladycats played against Petrolia and won in three sets.
Junior Malia Jones said in the third set the team was able substitutes in and were excited in the way they stepped up and scored points to finish the game.
“We knew Petrolia was going to be a team we could beat so we made it a goal to beat them in three,” Jones said.
The Ladycats’ first district game was against Quanah, winning in three sets.
“Quanah had some good hitters and our defense did really good,” freshman Addison Canada said. “When we served aggressively and played hard we got ahead and won.”
The Ladycats went to the MSU game against LCU.
“Watching the girls play at the collegiate level was exciting,” senior Kaydyn Ritchey said.
“The way the play helped me realize things I can work on and get better at.”
The Ladycats needed to beat Olney in the first round to advance. They won in five sets.
“We should’ve won in three sets but we got in our own heads,” Jones said. “In the second and fourth set we got lazy and gave up.”
