The Prowlin’ Growlin’ Wildcat Band competed in the Region 7 concert and sight reading contest on Feb. 28, earning a 3 in performance and a 1 in sight reading.
senior Brittany Howard said.
The judges scored a 3 – 3 – 2 in the concert portion of the contest.
“I was really upset,” sophomore Seth Kinzie said, “and I also felt a lot of sympathy for our seniors that worked extremely hard.”
For the concert portion, they played three different songs: “Darklands March” by Randall D. Standridge, “Prospect” by Pierre La Plante and “Journey Down Niagara” by Christopher Tucker.
“I knew they were a little bit more difficult to play,” Head Director Anthony Flores said, “but we needed the challenge of harder music.”
In “Prospect,” Howard and sophomore Ethan Pettibon had a short duet section.
“I was nervous leading up to it and shaking a little after,” Pettibon said, “but I enjoyed performing it.”
The band earned straight 1’s across the board in the sight reading room.
“The piece was really easy for our band,” senior Brianna Howard said. “The difference between the piece we were given and the ones we performed with were astounding.”
The band is now preparing for the spring concert on May 2.
